On this week's episode of the Hanford Insider, rob will give us a quick community news update and review some of the busy fall calendar ahead.

00:00:08.634 --> 00:00:19.969
Then Lupe Villa, kings County, registrar of Voters, stops by to share with us information about the upcoming general election, and later I'll be back with a high school football recap.

00:00:19.969 --> 00:00:23.920
This is the Hanford Insider for Monday October 7th.

00:00:40.826 --> 00:00:43.866
Hello everybody, welcome to this episode of the Hanford Insider.

00:00:43.866 --> 00:00:45.268
I'm your host, rob Bentley.

00:00:45.268 --> 00:00:48.509
Thanks for listening In community news this week.

00:00:48.509 --> 00:00:56.932
As most of you have heard by now, after 95 years in business, the Superior Dairy family is looking for a new owner to carry on the tradition.

00:00:56.932 --> 00:01:07.935
The new owner will be afforded the opportunity to continue the Superior Dairy legacy and deliver the high-quality products that their customers have come to know since 1929.

00:01:07.935 --> 00:01:20.638
Real estate agent Ryan Portugal is handling the sale and any interested party should contact him directly at 559-904-5252.

00:01:20.638 --> 00:01:26.111
Please contact him directly rather than going into the store.

00:01:26.131 --> 00:01:32.585
I'll be hosting a special show with most, if not all, of the City Council candidates on next week's episode of the Insider and I need your help.

00:01:32.585 --> 00:01:34.510
I'd like them to answer some of my questions as well as some of yours.

00:01:34.510 --> 00:01:44.745
If you'd like to participate, please email me at hanfordinsider at gmailcom with your question and listen to the show on the 14th to see if your question is one of the ones selected.

00:01:44.745 --> 00:01:46.528
Thanks for participating.

00:01:46.528 --> 00:01:50.795
In other news, I often get asked about community shredding events.

00:01:50.795 --> 00:01:57.871
I started these events when I was the band director at Pioneer Middle School and the high school bands have now taken that over.

00:01:57.871 --> 00:02:04.090
I see that the Sierra Pacific Band will be holding an event at the district office on Lacey Boulevard on Saturday, october 26th.

00:02:04.090 --> 00:02:05.393
So start saving your stuff.

00:02:05.393 --> 00:02:08.187
I'm planning on taking a box of my stuff to shred.

00:02:08.187 --> 00:02:09.289
Maybe I'll see you there.

00:02:09.289 --> 00:02:16.106

If you have an event coming up and you'd like some help getting the word out, let's work together.

00:04:00.173 --> 00:04:03.865
Send your information to hanfordinsider at gmailcom.

00:04:04.425 --> 00:04:08.274
Be sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter to get a complete calendar of events.

00:04:08.274 --> 00:04:24.228
Well, you've certainly seen the signs around town.

00:04:24.228 --> 00:04:42.341
It's election season and back in February we had the opportunity to visit with Lupe Villa, who is the Register of Voters for the County of Kings, and I invited him back to come on the show because we have a very full November ballot and we're not going to cover all the races and propositions or any of that information.

00:04:42.341 --> 00:04:47.607
Mainly, we'll be talking about how to make sure that your votes count in the November 5th election.

00:04:47.607 --> 00:04:48.911
Welcome to the show Lupe.

00:04:49.860 --> 00:04:50.723
Thanks so much, rob.

00:04:50.723 --> 00:04:51.966
Thanks for having me again.

00:04:51.966 --> 00:05:02.709
I appreciate the interview we held before last election and thank you for asking me to come back to your show and do another presentation to your audience.

00:05:02.709 --> 00:05:03.310
Appreciate it.

00:05:04.420 --> 00:05:09.012
So I know your office has been working really super hard on getting these ballots out.

00:05:09.012 --> 00:05:12.069
What is the timeline for the ballots going out this year?

00:05:13.120 --> 00:05:26.113
So you know, thankfully we have a very hardworking crew here at the Elections Department in Kings and we are on target to have our ballots hit the mail stream come October 7th.

00:05:26.113 --> 00:05:27.726
That'll be Monday, october 7th.

00:05:27.726 --> 00:05:36.454
There is some state VIGs the informational guides, that are going to be hitting possibly the week of the 30th, september 30th.

00:05:36.454 --> 00:05:45.619
Most voters in Kings County, including myself, just got our first mailer announcing our vca, our voter choice act, election model.

00:05:45.619 --> 00:05:46.161
That went out.

00:05:46.161 --> 00:05:51.261
I got it this morning but I believe we have been in my mailbox for a couple days so we'll send out.

00:05:51.281 --> 00:06:00.692
The next round of mailings is going to be the informational guide and, depending on the type of ballot that you have meaning the contest on your ballot that's the specific guide that you'll get.

00:06:00.692 --> 00:06:15.617
You can also go to our website at votekingstowningcom and we're going to have all 118, I believe information guides there for people to visit and view if they like, and then October 7th the ballots will be hitting the mail stream.

00:06:15.617 --> 00:06:30.353
So we're expecting our first mailing to be in excess of 63,000 ballots and, as with any election, you do expect and we anticipate some of our numbers to move around, depending on folks moving in or out of the county and such.

00:06:30.353 --> 00:06:41.204
So we'll do supplemental polls leading up to the 15th day before the election and then folks will come in in person vote in the office or at a vote center, but busy times.

00:06:41.204 --> 00:06:51.988
There'll be a lot of material being mailed out to our voters in Kings County, not just from the elections office but obviously from the candidates that are running for office for the November 5th election.

00:06:52.920 --> 00:06:59.199
So the ballots are going out this week and then your office is going to be flooded with, I'm sure, lots of people asking questions and stuff.

00:06:59.199 --> 00:07:01.488
But what else does your office do?

00:07:01.488 --> 00:07:06.572
Once the ballots hit the mailboxes, what is your office doing to prepare for November 5th?

00:07:07.240 --> 00:07:09.367
Yeah, so that's a great question, rob.

00:07:09.367 --> 00:07:14.411
So the ballots will hit October 7th, monday, october 7th.

00:07:14.411 --> 00:07:26.360
Our folks in Kings will probably start getting them in between the 9th and 10th and then, once those ballots hit the mail stream, we'll start getting our phones start ringing off the hook pretty much.

00:07:26.360 --> 00:07:28.706
People will start coming into the office.

00:07:28.706 --> 00:07:36.529
We do anticipate to have our 11 drop boxes available to the public to use on October 7th.

00:07:36.529 --> 00:07:43.949
So those drop boxes will be installed this coming week and then they'll be open up on October 7th for people to use.

00:07:44.771 --> 00:07:46.074
We prepare internally.

00:07:46.920 --> 00:08:02.615
Obviously, one of the things that we have in mind is security in the election, ensuring that our voters experience a safe and secure election, whether you vote by mail your ballot or you go in person to one of our eight vote centers that will be having this coming election will be having this coming election.

00:08:02.634 --> 00:08:15.829
We're required by state law to have seven vote centers but due to the anticipated turnout for the November 5th general election, we're going to open an eighth center just to accommodate the expected turnout.

00:08:16.420 --> 00:08:17.685
So we're preparing internally.

00:08:17.685 --> 00:08:34.009
A lot of the work goes behind the scenes in regards to the ballot laying out the ballot, creating the ballot, proofing the ballot to make sure that the ballot that you get is the correct ballot type and that the contest that you're entitled to cast or vote on are the contests that you have in front of you when you get your ballot.

00:08:34.009 --> 00:08:38.553
So a lot of the man hours that we have here are spent on that process.

00:08:38.553 --> 00:08:54.610
Once the ballots come back into the office, we take the necessary steps to ensure that we secure the ballots, that we properly process the ballots, you know, capture that signature, make sure we you eye, and it's a system we have in place internally.

00:08:54.610 --> 00:09:17.659
And again, I want to open that up to any member of the community who's interested in viewing or experiencing that process to come on to the office and you're more welcome to come and observe how we process our ballots here in King.

00:09:18.423 --> 00:09:19.466
That's great information.

00:09:19.466 --> 00:09:26.863
I'm sure some people will probably take you up on that In 2024, that's definitely something that people want to participate in.

00:09:27.744 --> 00:09:48.791
Back improving data that folks, not just in Kings- County but statewide, are still not familiar with what Voter Choice Act means.

00:09:48.791 --> 00:09:52.424
We also know it as VCA for short.

00:09:52.424 --> 00:10:03.355
But basically what Voter Choice Act does for our voters it allows you to have more options to vote, more ways to vote and more days to vote.

00:10:03.355 --> 00:10:04.740
In short.

00:10:04.740 --> 00:10:10.192
So we in Kings County opened two vote centers 10 days prior to the elections.

00:10:10.192 --> 00:10:20.269
So those two vote centers that are open 10 days prior to the election is the Office of Education in the City of Lemoore is one of them and the second one is our office.

00:10:20.269 --> 00:10:28.173
So folks can come into our office and vote anytime, actually here in my office, anytime after October 7th.

00:10:28.173 --> 00:10:36.561
So essentially my office is open for 29 days prior to the election to voting person, if you want a voting person.

00:10:36.561 --> 00:10:41.447
The vote center in Lemoore, the 10-day vote center, will open up on October 26th.

00:10:41.447 --> 00:10:43.672
In Lemoore, the 10-day vote center will open up on October 26th.

00:10:43.672 --> 00:10:58.465
And then the Voter Choice Act also requires us to open an additional five centers, but we're opening six, and those early vote centers open three days prior to the election and they start off November 2nd.

00:10:58.465 --> 00:11:04.787
So November 2nd, 3rd, 4th and obviously on Tuesday, november 5th, which is Election Day.

00:11:04.787 --> 00:11:08.429
So that's what BCA allows us to do.

00:11:09.240 --> 00:11:13.500
Another beautiful thing about BCA is that you can vote anywhere within Kings County.

00:11:13.500 --> 00:11:24.568
So if you're running errands in the city of Lemoore but you reside in Hanford your domicile is in Hanford you can cast your vote in one of our two vote centers that we have in Lemoore If you're in Avenel.

00:11:24.568 --> 00:11:29.076
But if you live in Avenel but you live in Corcoran, you can vote in Avenel.

00:11:29.076 --> 00:11:31.668
You can vote anywhere within the county of Kings.

00:11:31.668 --> 00:11:46.725
So that's another plus, I would say, or a good thing for Kings County to have, because our voters can be busy and sometimes they forget where to go or where to vote and they need to vote and they want to vote now.

00:11:46.725 --> 00:11:48.730
So that's the option they have.

00:11:49.519 --> 00:11:53.909
We will be having eight vote centers in total by the end of November 5th.

00:11:53.909 --> 00:12:01.010
We are going to have 11 drop boxes throughout Kings County again this year Two at the government center.

00:12:01.010 --> 00:12:04.942
We'll have a drop box in the city of Corcoran, abanel.

00:12:04.942 --> 00:12:09.885
There'll be three drop boxes in Lemoore and that's going to be at the Rec Department.

00:12:09.885 --> 00:12:13.128
Central Union, west Hills College will be having a drop box as well.

00:12:13.128 --> 00:12:36.533
Avenue and City of Hanford, the Grangeville, the high school on Grangeville Boulevard will have one, and then we have another drop box at the Home Gardens Community Service District area for those orders to use as well, and your drop box does not have to be within your vicinity.

00:12:36.533 --> 00:12:38.702
You can drop it off anywhere within Kings County.

00:12:38.702 --> 00:12:41.106
So that's another way that you can drop off your vote to us.

00:12:41.908 --> 00:12:46.014
And those boxes are cleared out daily.

00:12:46.960 --> 00:12:48.745
Those boxes we do.

00:12:48.745 --> 00:12:54.405
We retrieve our ballots every 48 hours as we get closer to the election.

00:12:54.405 --> 00:13:02.024
We have drop boxes that are highly used and we identified and based on data that we received from previous elections.

00:13:02.024 --> 00:13:16.071
That's the drop box on Greenfield Boulevard, hanford High, the drop box at the Lemoore's Park and Rec on Cinnamon Drive in the city of Lemoore and the drop box that we have here at the government center in the parking lot.

00:13:16.071 --> 00:13:25.889
Those drop boxes get collected sooner than 48 hours because of the volume of ballots that come through, so we try to bring them in as soon as the one in the parking lot.

00:13:25.889 --> 00:13:28.106
Here we'll bring in three, four times a day.

00:13:28.980 --> 00:13:30.586
Yeah, that one is the one I use.

00:13:31.200 --> 00:13:32.203
Yeah, that's very.

00:13:32.203 --> 00:13:39.086
You're not the only one so, but we welcome anyone to use that Dropbox, any Dropbox within Kings County.

00:13:39.086 --> 00:13:40.129
We'll collect those ballots.

00:13:40.129 --> 00:13:44.049
You know we never had any issues with our drop boxes.

00:13:44.049 --> 00:13:45.471
I you know.

00:13:45.471 --> 00:13:52.476
I'm very proud and happy to share that the community within Gaines County has been respectful of the drop boxes.

00:13:52.476 --> 00:13:57.745
We never had any of them vandalized or any issues with them and I'm very thankful for that.

00:13:57.745 --> 00:14:03.413
I hope that continues future elections, especially this coming November 5th general election.

00:14:03.413 --> 00:14:05.480
So thank the public for that.

00:14:05.980 --> 00:14:06.623
Yeah, me too.

00:14:06.623 --> 00:14:20.260
I want to go back to VCA for just a moment, because you said that a voter could vote in an area that maybe they don't reside, and so we are able to mail in the ballots or drop them off.

00:14:20.260 --> 00:14:26.903
But you have printers that will print up the ballots at each of these places, depending on which precinct they live in.

00:14:27.664 --> 00:14:55.207
Yes, so you know, going back to March 2020, which was the last election that was held in Kings County under the traditional election model, in which you had to go to your specific precinct and if you were not in that specific precinct or polling place, then you had to vote provisionally, which meant you were able to cast your vote, but then that vote was processed during the canvas period to make sure that you selected the contest that you're entitled to vote on.

00:14:55.207 --> 00:15:04.008
With VCA and the technology that we are now employing here in Kings County, it changed the entire process, how we offer the vote to the voter.

00:15:04.008 --> 00:15:05.504
So you're absolutely correct.

00:15:05.504 --> 00:15:09.250
Our technology allows any voter to vote anywhere within Kings County.

00:15:09.250 --> 00:15:14.711
Example you live in Hanford but you're on the moor and you want to stop at the Civic.

00:15:14.711 --> 00:15:36.022
By simply providing that poll worker your information, your address, they'll be able to recognize the ballot type that you're entitled to and then, by electronic means, send that to our ballot on demand printer that we have at each one of our locations, and that ballot on demand printer will print you a ballot that you're entitled to.

00:15:36.022 --> 00:15:41.946
You can then cast your vote, drop it off in the red bag that we have at each one of our vote centers and off you go.

00:15:42.928 --> 00:15:49.610
One of the things that we've done for this November 5th election is we prepared on the technology side as well.

00:15:49.610 --> 00:16:00.150
We are going to be equipping our vote centers with multiple ballot marking devices and multiple on-demand printers for our ballots.

00:16:00.150 --> 00:16:08.770
Specifically, college of the Sequoias, the multi-purpose room in the Garment Center and our vote center at the Civic in the City of LeMoyne.

00:16:08.770 --> 00:16:13.131
Those three centers are the centers that are highly used by our voters, that voting person.

00:16:13.131 --> 00:16:18.993
So there'll be the technology and the staffing will be there to accommodate the expected turnout.

00:16:20.841 --> 00:16:31.591
So the ballots are brought to your office and stored in your secure area, and then when does your staff start opening the ballots and start counting the votes?

00:16:32.272 --> 00:16:35.918
Yeah, so ballots are collected effective October 7th.

00:16:35.918 --> 00:16:39.450
Right as soon as the ballot hits the mail stream, we start getting some ballots back.

00:16:39.450 --> 00:16:43.611
Believe it or not, some people come in that same day and drop off their ballot back.

00:16:43.611 --> 00:16:45.759
Believe it or not, some people come in that same day and drop off their ballot.

00:16:45.759 --> 00:17:03.865
We have a secure vault in our office that it's under security, you know, access to only myself and my staff and we just increased some of the security steps within the elections office and warehouse to make sure that those ballots are secured and we keep them here.

00:17:04.406 --> 00:17:08.873
So processing or preparation of a ballot takes time.

00:17:08.873 --> 00:17:18.490
So we tend to wait, um, until we have a couple few trays of ballots, meaning about maybe 900 to 1200 ballots.

00:17:18.490 --> 00:17:19.752
Then we start preparing them.

00:17:19.752 --> 00:17:30.445
Um, it just, it's more cost effective and it's more efficient to do so and not do as they come in, because you don't have that very many at first.

00:17:30.906 --> 00:17:33.492
Now, fast forward to the mid-October.

00:17:33.492 --> 00:17:34.702
You'll be rocking and rolling.

00:17:34.702 --> 00:17:42.662
You'll be doing ballot preparation every day of the week and we'll be preparing ballots all the way up through election day.

00:17:42.662 --> 00:17:57.008
On Election Day, the first votes that were released are those vote-by-mail ballots that we received early on a daily basis from our vote centers Once they open up, both of the 10-day centers and including the three-day centers.

00:17:57.008 --> 00:18:00.015
We collect those ballots on a daily basis.

00:18:00.015 --> 00:18:10.172
So if a voter drives up to Avenue and they vote, that vote center staff is responsible to drive that ballot to us at the end of the day when they come back to the vote center.

00:18:10.172 --> 00:18:12.486
So we don't leave any live ballots at our vote centers.

00:18:12.486 --> 00:18:14.231
They come back home every night.

00:18:15.193 --> 00:18:16.057
On election night.

00:18:16.057 --> 00:18:26.338
I know that you have a website that you are constantly updating, and can you tell us a little bit about the website and how voters might see results posted?

00:18:27.144 --> 00:18:40.414
Yeah, so typically what we do is we print the report off of our voting system that captures the turnout and it captures the results of each contest on election night.

00:18:40.414 --> 00:18:49.500
We expect to print our first report on Tuesday, november 5th I would say about 8, 8.05.

00:18:49.500 --> 00:18:58.767
That report is going to give you a huge number of ballots that were returned to us early on in the process.

00:18:58.767 --> 00:19:02.836
We tend to do a minimum three reports before we go home.

00:19:02.836 --> 00:19:10.829
So one of the responsibilities you have and you cannot leave without doing this is making sure that you count every live ballot that is dropped off at a vote.

00:19:10.829 --> 00:19:22.191
So on election night, when the polls close at 8, the poll workers and staff at each one of our vote centers are responsible to collect the material and the ballots and drive those to our office.

00:19:22.191 --> 00:19:34.292
When they come to our office, we open up the red bags, break the seal, we review the seals, make sure they're in the same coordinating numbers and then we count the ballots that they bring back and make sure that they match our records.

00:19:35.184 --> 00:19:55.133
Once those ballots are counted and everything is balancing out, then we count the live ballots and all the other materials stored away until we start a canvas period, which is December, I mean November 7th, that's when we actually start canvas for the November 5th election, and canvas lasts for 30 dates.

00:19:55.133 --> 00:20:12.778
So we this year the governor just signed into law I can't remember the bill number, but Sunday he's signing into law a coordinated and certification date for all counties in the state of California.

00:20:12.778 --> 00:20:20.415
Previously, if you finish your your canvas period, you were able to certify any time within those 30 days.

00:20:20.415 --> 00:20:22.951
Now you have to wait until Tuesday, december 3rd.

00:20:22.951 --> 00:20:27.669
So the certification from the county to the Secretary of State's office must be on that day.

00:20:27.669 --> 00:20:32.848
But yeah, so all those ballots that we have, we do count them before we go home on election day.

00:20:32.848 --> 00:20:37.451
And if you cannot go home until you're done counting those ballots, it's a long night.

00:20:38.153 --> 00:20:38.994
Yes, sir, yes.

00:20:38.994 --> 00:20:47.903
So, speaking of long nights, long ballots, there's going to be a lot of issues to vote on, lots of.

00:20:47.903 --> 00:20:51.486
There's some school bonds, of course, we have the presidential election.

00:20:51.486 --> 00:20:53.988
We have some city tax measures.

00:20:53.988 --> 00:21:01.132
Can you just, real quick, just give us a rundown of some of the things that voters are going to be seeing on their ballots, in addition to the presidential?

00:21:01.192 --> 00:21:10.637
election district seats as well.

00:21:10.637 --> 00:21:15.921
You have your presidential elections, senator elections or contests.

00:21:15.921 --> 00:21:19.061
I should say you also have your local contests.

00:21:19.061 --> 00:21:20.403
City of Lemoore is on the ballot.

00:21:20.403 --> 00:21:27.067
City of Hanford is on the ballot.

00:21:27.067 --> 00:21:27.748
City of Avenel is on the ballot.

00:21:27.748 --> 00:21:28.509
City of Corcoran is not on the ballot.

00:21:28.509 --> 00:21:30.153
The candidates, the incumbents, were not challenged.

00:21:30.153 --> 00:21:31.925
Therefore they don't have to appear on the ballot.

00:21:31.925 --> 00:21:36.935
So that is the only city that went without challengers for the November 5th election.

00:21:36.935 --> 00:21:39.105
Other than that, every city is going to be on the ballot.

00:21:39.105 --> 00:21:44.968
Reef Sunset School District in Avenel has a recall that's going to be on the ballot as well.

00:21:44.968 --> 00:21:51.210
So the people in Avenel or in that area are going to have a busier ballot than other folks simply because of that recall.

00:21:52.453 --> 00:22:00.136
Also, one thing that we're going to see in the November 5th election is going to be nine state propositions that are going to be throughout the state.

00:22:00.136 --> 00:22:06.755
We have nine local measures that we have Cedar-le-Moore's got a measure, city of Hanford, city of Avenel.

00:22:06.755 --> 00:22:17.711
You're also going to see some school measures, such as State Center, community College, slate, unified, kingsburg, tulare, high Union and the elementary schools for Armona and Amford.

00:22:17.711 --> 00:22:20.954
So we'll be having a very busy ballot.

00:22:20.954 --> 00:22:24.471
You're going to see a three-card ballot nothing that I've seen before.

00:22:24.471 --> 00:22:27.653
I was thinking that it was going to be larger than that.

00:22:27.653 --> 00:22:29.511
But we'll take three cards A, b and C.

00:22:29.511 --> 00:22:37.738
So make sure that when you do open up your ballot envelope that you look for A, b and C and then you cast your vote on each one of those contests that you're entitled to vote on.

00:22:38.904 --> 00:22:42.515
So what would you say to encourage voter participation?

00:22:42.515 --> 00:22:45.328
What does your office do to encourage voter participation?

00:22:46.392 --> 00:22:48.636
We try and engage with our community.

00:22:48.636 --> 00:22:50.469
We attend community events.

00:22:50.469 --> 00:22:54.157
For example, last Friday we were singers at the park at Burbs Park.

00:22:54.157 --> 00:22:57.671
We attend that event on an annual basis.

00:22:57.671 --> 00:23:02.078
We have several pop-ups events at West Hills College.

00:23:02.905 --> 00:23:16.132
So we try to get out to the community and, you know, share our processes within Kings County and then take advantage of invitations, like the one you just offered me, you know, to come on your radio show and talk about elections and what we're doing here.

00:23:16.132 --> 00:23:20.448
So, talking, sitting here and talking to you, rob, it is a.

00:23:20.448 --> 00:23:29.374
I welcome it, you know, and anytime a reporter calls my desk, I answer right away because I think the message is magnified when I speak to you.

00:23:29.374 --> 00:23:32.307
So thank you for that and it is what we try to do.

00:23:32.307 --> 00:23:38.318
We also try to encourage, you know, our friends and neighbors to share the message that we have is extremely important to vote.

00:23:39.384 --> 00:23:48.535
There is, you know, very important contest that we're going to be having on the November 5th ballot that require your attention and your vote.

00:23:48.535 --> 00:23:51.486
So please promote the vote and hopefully people show up.

00:23:51.486 --> 00:23:52.847
I do expect.

00:23:52.847 --> 00:24:00.420
My prediction, you know, in talking to my staff, is that I have predicted 85% turnout in Kings County.

00:24:00.420 --> 00:24:05.936
We were at a 74, 78% turnout back in 2020.

00:24:05.936 --> 00:24:09.755
In general, I think that we're engaging the community a lot more this time around.

00:24:09.755 --> 00:24:12.894
I think that politics themselves have been magnified.

00:24:12.894 --> 00:24:31.645
We have a lot of local contests that are extremely important, that people are invested into and are going to be paying attention to this contest, and I think that's going to drive out the voters to want to drop off their ballot one of our ballot drop boxes or by the USPS service, or visit one of our vote centers.

00:24:31.645 --> 00:24:35.957
Whatever source of method you want to use to boat, just make sure you boat.

00:24:35.957 --> 00:24:38.153
We're here to sip your boat and make sure it counts.

00:24:39.144 --> 00:24:40.121
Well, I appreciate that.

00:24:40.121 --> 00:24:42.472
Lupe, Thank you for sharing that information.

00:24:42.472 --> 00:24:44.365
I know I'm going to ask you to do something.

00:24:44.365 --> 00:24:57.653
That's probably a little bit difficult because you're always going to think you're going to leave somebody off, but I know you have a tremendous staff that works with you, and it's not you just loading up your pickup truck with all these ballots and driving them back to your office.

00:24:57.653 --> 00:24:58.854
You have a tremendous staff.

00:24:58.854 --> 00:25:04.638
I remember when we visited back in February, I got to meet a few of them, and this is your opportunity to thank your staff.

00:25:04.638 --> 00:25:08.744
We definitely appreciate the work that they put in Absolutely.

00:25:08.825 --> 00:25:09.826
I mean, without a doubt.

00:25:09.826 --> 00:25:13.210
They are the folks that run the department.

00:25:13.210 --> 00:25:14.951
As I was telling you before, I'm just a driver.

00:25:14.951 --> 00:25:20.438
You guys tell me where to go, but I am so thankful and grateful for the staff.

00:25:20.438 --> 00:25:23.602
I have Emily Oliveira, our election supervisors.

00:25:23.602 --> 00:25:32.652
Then we have Manuel Hernandez, fala Valdez, gloria Rodriguez and Hope Nail.

00:25:32.652 --> 00:25:33.917
That are our election staff and they invest a lot of time.

00:25:33.917 --> 00:25:40.753
They sacrifice from their personal lives to come dedicate some of their hours here to the office, and this is just getting up to the election.

00:25:40.753 --> 00:25:43.615
When election gets here, it is rock and roll.

00:25:43.615 --> 00:25:46.054
So we'll be having a lot of long days for them.

00:25:46.054 --> 00:25:53.625
They'll be working hard and, above all, you know, they work with a high degree of integrity and dedication to the words of Kings County.

00:25:53.625 --> 00:26:02.930
So rest assured that we're doing our best to ensure that our elections are safe, secure and that each one of our voters experience a great election come November.

00:26:02.930 --> 00:26:05.651
So thanks for bringing that up, thanks to my staff.

00:26:05.651 --> 00:26:06.872
You know you guys rock.

00:26:06.872 --> 00:26:09.393
So again, you know we'll be successful.

00:26:09.393 --> 00:26:11.314
I anticipate a very successful election.

00:26:11.794 --> 00:26:14.375
Well, thank you for all that you do and your staff.

00:26:14.375 --> 00:26:19.978
We certainly appreciate it and we know how important it is to our democracy to have a free and fair election.

00:26:19.978 --> 00:26:24.339
So without you guys handling things for us, it would be a wreck.

00:26:24.339 --> 00:26:30.262
So again, thank you for coming on the show and it's always a pleasure to visit with you about the election process.

00:26:31.022 --> 00:26:43.151
For sure, rob, and I also want to say thanks to the voters of Kings County that come out at every election.

00:26:43.151 --> 00:26:44.855
Thank you for your continuing support and for your vote of confidence.

00:26:44.855 --> 00:26:49.065

00:26:49.065 --> 00:26:53.913

00:26:53.913 --> 00:26:55.678
Come to our office if you have any concerns.

00:26:55.678 --> 00:27:02.373
As for me, I'll be more than happy to meet with you and talk to you about any concerns you may have leading up to the election or after the election.

00:27:02.373 --> 00:27:09.356
You know we're as transparent as we can get and we drive and I, you know, embrace transparency.

00:27:09.356 --> 00:27:13.292
So we're here to help and we're here to answer any questions, concerns you may have.

00:27:19.973 --> 00:27:24.001
Again, thank you for your time, Rob.

00:27:24.001 --> 00:27:24.583
Appreciate it.

00:27:24.583 --> 00:27:29.650
And now it's time for Hanford Insider Sports with Eric Bentley.

00:27:29.650 --> 00:27:35.219
It was more of the same for Hanford High as they took down Dinuba last week 43-6.

00:27:35.219 --> 00:27:48.659
As we've seen all season long, the opponent got on the board first, as Dinuba went up 6-0, but it was classic bullpup football after that, as the combination of explosive offense and big play defense kept the Emperors at bay.

00:27:48.659 --> 00:27:59.895
The bullpups scored all 43 of their points in three quarters before the running clock was initiated to start the fourth, sitting at a perfect 6-0 and still ranked in the Division I top 10,.

00:28:00.384 --> 00:28:07.038
The Bullpups will have a tough test this week as they host a top 10 showdown with Tulare Union on Friday for their homecoming game.

00:28:07.038 --> 00:28:13.016
And it was a tough week for Sierra Pacific and Hanford West, as both teams were shut out last week.

00:28:13.016 --> 00:28:23.676
The Golden Bears will look to bounce back from their loss to Exeter when they travel to Emanuel on Friday, and the Huskies will try to rebound from their loss to Reedley as they host Selma on Thursday.

00:28:23.676 --> 00:28:33.134
We'd like to cover as many local sports as we can, so if you have a score report or a story idea, make sure to email hanfordinsider at gmailcom.

00:28:33.134 --> 00:28:37.250
I'm Eric Bentley and this has been your Hanford Insider Sports.
