00:00:00.702 --> 00:00:05.059
One, two, three, four.

00:00:05.059 --> 00:00:09.711
This is the Hanford Insider for Monday, july 22nd.

00:00:09.711 --> 00:00:15.907
Well, hello, hanford.

00:00:15.907 --> 00:00:18.367
Welcome to this episode of the Hanford Insider.

00:00:18.367 --> 00:00:19.824
I'm your host, rob Bentley.

00:00:19.824 --> 00:00:20.827
Thanks for listening.

00:00:20.827 --> 00:00:23.207
For those of you new to the show, welcome.

00:00:23.719 --> 00:00:27.150
The Hanford Insider is a weekly podcast that releases every Monday.

00:00:27.150 --> 00:00:36.392
I cover a little bit of everything from Hanford news, a community calendar, and my son, eric, who works in sports, gives us a rundown of high school sports each week during the school year.

00:00:36.392 --> 00:00:40.250
I try to keep things light and positive in such a negative world.

00:00:40.250 --> 00:00:41.926
I hope you enjoy the format.

00:00:41.926 --> 00:00:44.728
I'm always looking for more human interest stories.

00:00:44.728 --> 00:00:47.786
A little bit later in the show I'll let you know how you can get involved.

00:00:47.786 --> 00:00:54.212
I'd like to thank this month's supporters, like Valerie Castles, who made a donation to the show through Buy Me a Coffee.

00:00:54.212 --> 00:00:56.445
Your support of the show means a lot to me.

00:00:56.445 --> 00:00:56.968
Thank you.

00:00:58.072 --> 00:01:02.606
In community news at the Thursday Night Marketplace this week it's National Carousel Day.

00:01:02.606 --> 00:01:07.424
Come down to the Civic Center Park and enjoy a ride on Hanford's historic carousel.

00:01:07.424 --> 00:01:10.412
The band Flashback will be providing the entertainment.

00:01:10.412 --> 00:01:15.742
After two weeks off due to the heat, I know we're all hoping it won't have to be canceled this week as well.

00:01:15.742 --> 00:01:24.594
Congratulations to former Chamber of Commerce Director Amory Marple on her selection as the District Director III for the Soroptimus International.

00:01:24.594 --> 00:01:32.762
Congratulations as well to the staff at Griswold LaSalle, kopp, dowd and Ginn LLP Law Firm for their recent recognitions.

00:01:32.762 --> 00:01:41.647
Robert Dodd, michael Johnson and Mario Zamora were all selected as Thomson Reuters 2024 Northern California Super Lawyers.

00:01:41.647 --> 00:01:48.584
Megan Crouch and Christina Filippo were selected as the 2024 Northern California Rising Stars.

00:01:48.584 --> 00:01:51.290
Congratulations to these fine men and women.

00:01:51.290 --> 00:02:01.307
Their dedication, expertise across various practice areas and commitment to excellence have solidified their positions among the top professionals in the legal field.

00:02:01.307 --> 00:02:11.752
Finally, a big congratulations to the Hanford Police Activities League boxers on their recent success at Southern California State Amateur Boxing Championships last weekend.

00:02:12.621 --> 00:02:17.353
In case you missed it, the restoration in China Alley suffered another setback this month.

00:02:17.353 --> 00:02:22.669
If you remember, arson destroyed many items in the Towers Temple in 2021.

00:02:22.669 --> 00:02:26.008
Some items that were saved were sent out for restoration.

00:02:26.008 --> 00:02:33.807
There was a break-in at the storage unit where other items were being stored, and some of the items ended up in a local antique store and pawn shop.

00:02:33.807 --> 00:02:41.902
Members of the China Alley Preservation Society are asking the community to be on the lookout for any items that appear to be from the Taoist temple.

00:02:41.902 --> 00:02:48.228
A tip-off would be if there's any mention that the artifacts came from a tunnel that went from Modesto to Hanford.

00:02:48.228 --> 00:02:49.985
That's a red flag right there.

00:02:49.985 --> 00:02:56.872
No such tunnel ever existed and that is what the description read at the antique store one artifact was located at.

00:02:56.872 --> 00:03:04.991
If you have any information or leads on this theft, please contact Ariane Wing at info at ltsucom.

00:03:06.439 --> 00:03:13.491
The Hanford High School Bowl is reopened for walking the track Mondays through Fridays, 7 am to 8 pm when school is not in session.

00:03:13.491 --> 00:03:21.330
When school starts it will be open 4 to 8 on the weekdays and Saturdays, 8 am to noon when the site has Saturday school.

00:03:21.330 --> 00:03:29.849
And there's more good news With the upgrades to the Hanford West and Sierra Pacific tracks, those will be made available to the public soon as well.

00:03:29.849 --> 00:03:34.846
Hanford Youth Soccer signups are currently underway and close July 28th.

00:03:34.846 --> 00:03:38.354
Visit hanfordyouthsoccerorg for more information.

00:03:38.354 --> 00:03:47.114
The Kings County Association of Governments would like your input on the improvements you'd like to see for walking and biking infrastructure in your community.

00:03:47.114 --> 00:03:54.933
Take the survey at kingscogorg forward slash 2025 RAT.

00:03:56.659 --> 00:04:01.963
The Hanford City Council has had two meetings since our last new episode, so let me catch you up on some of the highlights.

00:04:01.963 --> 00:04:03.164
So let me catch you up on some of the highlights.

00:04:03.164 --> 00:04:10.450
At the July 2nd meeting, the Council decided to uphold the regulations regarding basketball hoops being left on public sidewalks and in the street.

00:04:10.450 --> 00:04:18.916
The hoops are continuing to be in the way of street sweepers and refuse vehicles, as well as blocking the sidewalks for walkers and bicyclists.

00:04:18.916 --> 00:04:27.870
At that meeting the Council also formally sent the revenue measure to be placed on the November ballot.

00:04:27.870 --> 00:04:33.250
Now it's time for the citizens of Hanford to determine the fate of the proposed 1% sales tax increase for public safety and other community improvements.

00:04:33.250 --> 00:04:41.569
At last week's meeting the council heard reports from the Kings Tulare Homeless Alliance about current stats and trends with our homeless community.

00:04:41.569 --> 00:04:45.250
They also had a lengthy discussion about illegal fireworks.

00:04:45.250 --> 00:04:47.303
They are certainly a problem.

00:04:47.303 --> 00:05:00.694
They'll be updating the municipal code and I'm sure you'll see an increased use of technology to catch people in the act of lighting illegal fireworks next year and a significant increase of the current $1,000 fine.

00:05:06.464 --> 00:05:08.548
Here are some things coming up on our community calendar.
